What is Physical Theatre?
Modern physical theatre has grown from a variety of origins and is steeped in ancient traditions of both Eastern and Western cultures. It is a style of Theatre performance where a story is expressed primarily through the use of the body, but also contains the integration of the vocal, mental and emotional resources of the performer. Physical Theatre can include a wide variety of styles, approaches and aesthetics that can include dance-theatre, movement theatre, clown, Bouffon, puppetry, mime, mask, Commedia dell ’Arte, vaudeville, and circus.

WHO: Calling all Adults with a lot a folly and some performance experience to join us in a series of workshops to discover your Bouffon character and the revelry of the Bouffon ‘gang’!

WHAT: INTRODUCTION TO THE BOUFFON - Imagine the heart of the Bouffon, which is mockery pushed to the point of parody. Bouffons amuse themselves by reproducing the life of man in their own way, through games and pranks. They play our society, its themes of power, of science, of religion in ‘follies’. Join us in a journey in search of your "Bouffon", born of the artist's desire to comment on society's values. These workshops will offer a physical means of theatrical expression to explore issues of relevance or importance, with the possibility of building a co-created performance piece. Further details to be determined. These workshops also offer insight into the work of Ecole Jacques Lecoq and Philip Gaulier and their pedagogic inquiry into performance approaches to comedy.

WHEN: Mondays, Ap. 24 – June 5, 2017 (No Class May 22) from 6:00-9:00pm (6 classes=18 hours)

INVESTMENT: Discount = $170/player if registered by April 10, or for students and members of: Parkdale Community, Calgary Acts and Morpheus Theatre
