What is Physical Theatre?
Modern physical theatre has grown from a variety of origins and is steeped in ancient traditions of both Eastern and Western cultures. It is a style of Theatre performance where a story is expressed primarily through the use of the body, but also contains the integration of the vocal, mental and emotional resources of the performer. Physical Theatre can include a wide variety of styles, approaches and aesthetics that can include dance-theatre, movement theatre, clown, Bouffon, puppetry, mime, mask, Commedia dell ’Arte, vaudeville, and circus.
WHO: Adults(Some performance experience required)
WHAT: SLAPSTICK COMEDY AND VAUDEVILLE - Imagine the turn of the century where vaudeville and slapstick humour are the most popular forms of variety entertainment. In a series of fun-filled drama classes, players will learn about the history and characters that have been part of creating our culture for hundreds of years. Players will begin with self-development drama activities and with an enriched body, and vocal vocabulary, will explore the strategies and techniques that actors use for creating slapstick Comedy such as: the trip, Juggling and Magic. Players will create their own comedy characters and scenario and develop their Theatre and Performing Arts and communication skills. At the end of the program players will present, with confidence, their own characters and comedy scenes, for friends, family and anyone that would like to see how we play.
WHEN: Sundays, 6:00-9:00pm from Oct. 29-Dec. 17, 2017 except Nov. 5 which will take place from 5:30-8:00pm
INVESTMENT: Discount = $200/player, if registered by Oct. 13, or for students or members of: Calgary Acts or Regular = $230/player
Investment includes: 7 classes x 2 1/2 hours/class plus 2 1/2 hours for dress rehearsal and performance at the end of the program = 20 hours. (Props and set supplied by Theatre A Go-Go)

INSTRUCTOR: Salutations! My name is Tanya and I am the founding Artistic Director of Theatre A Go-Go, a Physical Theatre Company that utilizes styles and techniques of physical theatre to create its work. Since 1987, Theatre A Go-Go has created many original physical theatre productions that have toured and performed locally. My studies have taken me throughout Europe, studying with master mask makers and physical theatre practitioners. The educational component of Theatre A Go-Go was established to inspire all ages to explore and express, with confidence, through Physical Theatre and Performing Arts. I continue to collaborate with various individuals and organizations to IMAGINE - EXPLORE – EXPRESS – PLAY
