Theatre Arts Residencies for Schools
Theatre A Go-Go offers Schools, Curriculum aligned - hands-on, inquiry-based learning through the Arts, where students of all ages find success in and around Calgary. We also facilitate Drama clinician workshops.
Imagine a child exploring and celebrating intuition, uniqueness, spontaneity and creativity. By unlocking inner resources a child gains a joyful confidence, expressiveness and sensitivity to self, others and the world around them; and enthusiastically takes on a world of learning.
“The arts significantly boost student achievement, reduce discipline problems, and increase the odds students will go on to graduate from college. As First Lady Michelle Obama sums up, both she and the President believe ‘strongly that arts education is essential for building innovative thinkers who will be our nation’s leaders for tomorrow.’” -Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education.
Arts-integrated learning is a powerful enrichment tool supporting the curriculum, and is a great aid for multiple learning styles. Research has shown that when students dynamically engage body, emotions, and senses in learning new skills and information, the learning is solidified in a child’s long term memory. Because they stay engaged, they retain the learning for a life time.
The Principal Instructor is Tanya Lukenoff, who is an internationally trained performer, instructor, writer, and director. She is a seasoned teaching artist who inspires all ages to add imagination and expression to their learning. Tanya has been instructing theatre and performing arts classes for over twenty years and for various organizations such as; The Alberta Fine Arts Council, Theatre Calgary, The University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, various Out of School Programs and The Calgary Down Syndrome Association. She developed skills with Arts integration through Calgary Arts Partners in Education Society in 1996, and has since completed many projects, with schools, integrating Drama and Mask Making into the Alberta Education four core curriculum subjects.
At Theatre A Go-Go, we work closely with Teachers to assist in delivering a curriculum unit that is fun and memorable. Programs are custom made and can vary in length, depending on the learning objectives/outcomes and the team. If you have students and teachers that are struggling with learning integration, Tanya would be more than happy to come alongside with a new toolbox of ideas that could move things forward quickly and in a fun way.
Theatre A Go-Go will travel to Schools throughout Southern Alberta.
